Congratulations on taking the first step to a better life for yourself! It takes great courage to
open yourself up to exploring how you have traditionally viewed yourself and to contemplate
change. As we go through the journey to come, I will be equally your guide and partner as you
explore your ideas and your options. Recognizing the choices that are available to you is an
important part of the therapeutic process. I see my role in this partnership as a creative,
compassionate, and insightful guide. I will help you identify the patterns in your life and will help
you learn to believe that you can make changes to these patterns when they hinder you or
strengthen them when they bring you joy. I will clarify how this can happen and how to develop the
necessary skills. As I respect your ability to make decisions, I will help you gain confidence in your
own decision-making abilities. I will encourage your autonomy so that you can evaluate your
options as you determine what you need to do to realize your best self.
I see therapy as a chance to help my clients find the tools and skills to improve their lives. We do
the best we can with the emotional skills we have and with the options that we perceive as being
available to us. In my thirty-plus years of working as a therapist and counselor, I have worked with
hundreds of adolescents and adult men and women who have struggled valiantly to create a
meaningful life and, despite their limited resources, to connect to others. I have helped them use
their strength, determination, creativity and motivation to help them move from survival mode to
enjoying their life. You may be at a place in your life where you feel stuck and are not focusing on
your strengths and abilities. Hopefully as we work together you will be able to take credit and
ownership of your positive characteristics and attributes.
I am an Adlerian trained psychotherapist and see each client as a unique individual. As such, we
will look at the underlying patterns of your life, what behaviors have worked for you and which
ones have caused you distress. I am sensitive to the fact that we are holistic beings. The
environment we live in, including our race, ethnicity, sexual preference and socioeconomic status
influences how we see ourselves and the world around us. I will strive to understand the
experiences that have shaped you. I prefer the transdiagnostic approach of figuring out how the
pieces of your life fit together so that you can feel less fragmented.
As a professional mental health clinician, I have worked with clients dealing with anxiety,
depression, bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have worked with
individuals, couples and families. I have extensive knowledge of ADHD, autism, learning disabilities
and traumatic brain injuries. I have helped clients and their families manage these conditions and
minimize the frustration associated with them. Most importantly, I can guide clients about how
these conditions affect mental health and how to develop healthier behaviors.
My clinical experience is enhanced by 15 years as an adjunct professor throughout New York
and New Jersey. Among the classes I have taught are abnormal psychology, the brain and behavior,
developmental psychology, ethics in the helping profession, introduction to counseling, marriage
and family therapy, multicultural counseling and theories of counseling and psychotherapy.
I feel honored to be a therapist. To be allowed into your life when you are feeling vulnerable
requires developing a special trust and I will do everything I can to earn and maintain your trust. I
want you to always feel safe and accepted so that we go can through the process of exploration
that leads to resolutions of your challenges and a change in your beliefs about yourself and your world.
I look forward to starting this journey toward fulfillment and inner peace together with you.
